In Hindi, there are so many ways to ask the time.Say,
kya bajaa hain ?
kya baj gaya ?
kya samay ho gaya ?
kitne baje hain ?
kitne baj gaye ?
All of these mean "What time is it?"
Use साढे (sardhe) for half past
Use पौने (paune) for quarter until
Use सवा (sawaa) for quarter past
Use these words before the number. Baje ( बजे ) is an equivalent of "o'clock". It comes from verb "bajna", to ring.
EXAMPLES:
1. Half past three (3:30) = साढे तीन बजे (sardhe tin baje)
2. Half past five (5:30) = साढे पाँच बजे (sardhe paanch baje)
3. Quarter until six (5:45) = पौने छै बजे (paune che baje)
4. Quarter until four (3:45) = पौने छै बजे (paune che baje)
5. Quarter past nine (9:15) = सवा नौ बजे (sawaa nau baje)
However, if you want to say 1:30 or 2:30...
डेढ बजे (dedh baje) = 1:30
ढाई बजे (dhai baje) = 2:30
It is only 01:30 both early morning and afternoon for which a different term is used. To say the time is half past one, we would say deedh baja hai. Again to denote night or afternoon we can use the words raat and dopahar.
If you're dealing with a minute amount before the 30 mark, then:
(the hour) बजकर bajkar (amount of minutes) मिनट हो गए minut ho gae
EXAMPLES:
a. 3:20 = तीन बजकर बीस मिनट हो गए tin bajkar bees minut ho gae
If you're dealing with a minute number past the 30 mark, then:
(the hour about to be) बजने मेँ bajne mein (amount of minutes remaining until next hour) हैँ or बाकी हैँ hain or baki hain
EXAMPLES:
It's nine o'clock.
(Nau baje hain )
do baje hai (It is two o’clock)
It's 5:15.
(Sawaa panch baje hain.)
12:30 at night would be raat ke sadhe barah hai.
12:45 at night would be raat ke paune ek
barah baj ke tees minute (12:30 a.m.)
barah baj ke pentalis minute (12:45 a.m.).
12 noon would be dopahar ke barah baje,
05:15 p.m. would be shaam ke sava paanch
10:30 p.m. would be raat ke sade dus.
