Lomdi aur Kaua
Bahut purani baat hai. Ek kaua bhojan ki talaash mein idhar udhar bathak raha tha. Parantu, uske haath kuch na laga. Vah thakha manda ek ped par jaa baita. Are vah! Kismat ho tho aisi! Use ek plate mein paneer ka tukda dikhayi diya. Vah plate ke pass pahuncha, usne apni chonch se use utha liya aur udne laga. Bahut se kauwe uske peeche peeche udne lage. Vo bhi paneer ko usse cheenna chate the. Vo sabko chakma dene mein kaamiyaab ho gaya aur ek ped ki shaakha par jaa kar baith gaya. Udhar hi kahin ek lomdi vahan se guzar rahi thi. Lomdi ne kauwe ki chonch mein fasa paneer dekha to uske muh mein paani aa gaya. Usne jald hi kawe se uska paneer apne kabze mein lene ki yojana banayi aur usne kauwe ki aur dekha aur boli – “are kauwe bhayi, tum kitane khoobsoorat ho”.
Translation:
The Fox and the Crow
Once a crow went in search of food. However, nothing felt his hands. Exhausted and fatigued, he went and sat on a tree. Oh wow! What luck – he saw a piece of cheese on a plate. He reached the plate, lifted the cheese in his beak, and began flying. Many crows flew behind him. They also wanted to snatch his cheese. It tricked everyone and flew and went and sat on a tree. A fox was passing by that way. The fox’s mouth watered when he saw the crow with a piece of cheese in its beak. He soon planned to take the cheese in his possession and he looked at the crow and said - "Hey crow brother, you're so beautiful". "I shall give you my identity - I am an innocent fox. My friends told me that your voice has a rare sweetness. Is that true? “Crow was surprised to hear - until today nobody appreciated her voice. But he kept quiet. "Crows brother, can you not sing a song for me in your melodious voice. Please sing!" But still he was silent.
Fox then said - "Can you not fulfill your dear sister’s wish?" "You're so beautiful, what do you say about your feathers; Sing me a song oh crow brother." Crow fell flattered. The Crow opened up her beak and began to caw, but the moment she opened her mouth the piece of cheese fell to the ground. He snapped up the cheese and ate it. By the time crow understand what happened, the fox fled away. The crow became sad.
What is the use of regretting after the bird has devoured the field? That is why it is said – “Beware of flatterers. Do not trust them.”
