Learn Hindi Series: Basic Conversations at a Bank

Namaste and Welcome back!

This post is yet another Hindi learning series where we learn the language using a basic conversation at a bank. By now, you know that I use simple contexts to help you learn new words, usages, sentences, grammar, and even writing, reading, and speaking. I do not believe in the conventional methods of teaching that our schools and colleges use to teach languages. Our educational system seriously needs a revolutionary change in the syllabus and methodology of studying and evaluation. Anyways, that's a topic that is not under my control. I'm here to share what worked for me and what has worked for my students for the last 20 years.

I've been an unconventional freelance tutor teaching Hindi and Malayalam to young and adults for almost 10 years. I've taught people from India, USA, Spain, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, and Kuwait. As a result of trying different approaches to teaching young and adults, I developed this system of Hindi learning that I'm sharing in this blog.

So, for our today's learning, I'm using a bank conversation between a cashier and a customer.

Scenario: Mr. John approaches a cashier in a bank for money exchange.

Conversation
( Namaste, kya main aapki madad kar sakta hoon)
( ham, Euro ka krayay dar kya hai)
Dollars euro karne ke liye)
( Zaroor, aap kitana parivartan karna chahenge)
(Bahut achcha, main aapka passport dekh sakta hoon)

Cashier: — Hi. May I help you?
John: — Yes. What´s the buying rate for euro?
Cashier: — 1.15 U.S. dollars to the euro.
John: — Okay. I´d like to change some euro into US dollars, please.
Cashier: — Sure. How much would you like to change?
John: — Six hundred euro.
Cashier: — Very good. May I see your passport?
John: — Here you are.
Cashier: — How would you like your bills?
John: — In fifties please.

Words that we learnt:

Let's practice.
